You can go down thru the hole, but have to be patient if you got there around high tide. During the rainy season certain spots are incredibly muddy and roping down inclines becomes more difficult as the ropes are slimy. We planned on doing the whole trail out and back but ended up just going down 6 miles to Toleak point, camped there for a night and headed back the next day. My brother retired two years ago from 20 plus years in the service, I will say it has been an adjustment for him. We went out and back but I would not suggest that unless you are experienced. Tons of variety, beautiful ocean views, wildlife, beaches, and fire pits. It's a beautiful hike with views of sea stacks, orcas, and rainforests. There are obstacles to be negotiated at every turn, cooperation required, and like a corporate sponsored team-building event, we are positively lifted by the time we make it to Toleak Point.

Just be mindful of the tide. The debrief is fairly quick. Nice remote area to hang out definitely off the beaten path. In 0.1 mile, ford a small stream. The high tide completely covers some beaches, so pick your tent spots carefully. Make sure you have your tide charts down to get around a couple of points. Very helpful people there, gave us good information about the tides and where to camp. My niece and nephew are, literally, without complaint, and I am a bit ashamed that I find it moving. Or an ideal, a vision of your place in the world?

We tracked our hike at 19.1 miles from La Push to Oil city parking lot.
